OWT with Jacket Foundation: Scour

Research Motivation

Severe scour can considerably reduce the foundation embedment depth and thus leads to fatal damages to OWT systems. Given sandy seabed conditions are typical in most Taiwan’s wind farms, foundation scour must be accounted for offshore wind design. To this end, scour safety of a jacket-supported offshore OWT system is investigated in this project.

Contents

This study discusses how the scour depth affects structural stability in terms of the lateral displacement of the OWT, and different seabed soil structures are also concerned.

Future Prospects

We can expect that to ensure scour safety of the OWT, scour-sense design and lifetime monitoring are of great importance for future wind farm development.
