Old-OWT with Jacket Foundation: Ship Collision Study
Research Motivation
Due to its lattice frame feature, the jacket substructure of an OWT is more likely to receive catastrophic damage associated with collision with either commercial ships or support vessels. To date, domestic damage analyses of ship-OWT collisions have received limited attention, which motivates our study.
Contents
FEM simulation analyses associated with energy dissipation analysis are employed to understand the crushing behavior of a jacket-supported OWT. The influence of ship impact velocity and location, and deformability of the striking ship, are also addressed in the study.
Future Prospects
We expect to provide a decision-making tool for damage assessment and post-incident repairment.
